Topics in Statistical Genomics (FLAMES @ KU Leuven Colloquium)

Location:
KU Leuven
Period:
Thursday, November 29, 2018 -
09:30 to 13:00
Description:

This colloquium offers a comprehensive overview of various tools in the field of genomics analysis.First, a theoretical overview of statistical methods for genomics will be presented. The, the discussion will focus on the new R package ‘’SCENIC’’, which consists in a computational method for simultaneous gene regulatory network reconstruction and cell-state identification from single-cell RNA-seq data. Some applications of the R package ‘’SCENIC’’, cisTopic and some other tools developed by the speakers will be presented.

SCENIC is a computational method for simultaneous gene regulatory network reconstruction and cell-state identification from single-cell RNA-seq data (http://scenic.aertslab.org). On a compendium of single-cell data from tumors and brain, we demonstrate that cis-regulatory analysis can be exploited to guide the identification of transcription factors and cell states. SCENIC provides critical biological insights into the mechanisms driving cellular heterogeneity.

SCENIC, cisTopic, and some other tools developed by the speakers will be presented.
